Event Detail

Matsu Marathon 2026 is the 11th edition of one of the Matsu Islands' signature sporting events, returning to Nangan on Saturday, 7 November. The event offers four road-race options: a 42K full marathon, 21K half marathon, 10K challenge and 5K leisure run. Race activity begins from Fuao Sports Ground at 06:40 local time.

This is a destination race built around Nangan's steep island terrain rather than a flat city course. Current organiser material says runners pass well-known local landmarks including Matsu Jingtianhou Temple, Iron Fort and Stronghold No. 12. The longer routes also use distinctive tunnel sections that are subject to local access rules, while the 10K and 5K provide shorter alternatives. Runners should expect repeated climbs and descents, exposed coastal sections and a course character that has earned the event its "steel course" identity.

The race is also a major sporting and tourism event for the islands. By late July, close to 1,000 runners had already entered, and Lienchiang County was coordinating transport capacity, road control, aid-station planning and volunteer operations for race weekend. The event is jointly organised by Lienchiang County Government and the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration.

Registration opened on 15 July, with an early-bird discount through 15 August and entries subject to early closure when quotas filled. Current race calendars list the general entry window through 15 September. Organiser guidance also states that race materials and finisher gifts must be collected personally rather than by a representative, so participants should follow the final event instructions for collection timing and location.

Prize money is published for the competitive races. The full-marathon overall top prize is TWD 30,000, the half-marathon top prize is TWD 20,000 and the 10K winner can receive TWD 10,000. Additional awards recognise leading Taiwan, local and senior runners.
